Special Session 1: Digital and Intelligent Technologies for Distribution Networks

DDigital and intelligent technologies drive the evolution of distribution networks by transforming physical distribution networks into digitalized hub, in which ubiquitous connections and massive data will become the basic characteristics. This evolution brings the potential to apply cloud computing, big data, Internet of Things, mobile internet, artificial intelligence, blockchain, and other new-generation digital technologies in distribution networks, accelerating high-quality electricity service and intelligent operation. Algorithms developed from digital and intelligent technologies are used to analyze vast amounts of data to predict energy generation of renewable energy resources, optimize grid operations, and restore power supply. Edge computation, among these digital technologies, allows decentralized processing at the network edge. Combined with real-time monitoring systems, the edge computation offer visibility into network performance. In future, numerous changes, including novel network structures and operation scenarios may occur in distribution networks.
